I bought a KDS AV 195TF @ Best Buy on the 6th of this month, the price was $479.95 w/ $30.00 rebate for a totoal of $459.00 + tax. I noticed from my BB Sales booklet today that the same monitor is now on sale for $459.00 w/$30.00 Rebate for a total of $419.00 + Tax. Took my sales slip back and they refunded me $32.18. an even better deal on a Excellent Trinitron 19" Monitor. Radarman

The rebate form is from Best Buy and it is printed out from the cash register when you purchase the monitor. I'm sorry but I would rather pay tax and buy locally if possible, much less hassle if you need to return the item, besides I'm impatient, see it, buy it, take it home and use it. Radarman

<< Sorry to burst your bubble but with Onvia's $25 coupon and 10% off from pointclick and no taxes, you've got a cold deal. >>

Pennstate,

Buying monitors from mail order has recently been quite frustrating for me. Even if I were to pay $80 more from a monitor at a B&M store, I would find it pleasurable to return it to the store and be able to tell them to "stuff it", if it was a crappy monitor. Given the geometry issues that the Trinitron tubes can have, I'd prefer to purchase this monitor locally and save the shadow mask monitors for on-line ordering.

For a difference of almost $100, I would take that chance. KDS's avitron warranty offers advance fedex replacement and covers return shipping for the first 3 months. Not everybody have franklins to burn.

Monitors are about the only thing that I will not buy over the internet. I want to see it operate, and if it isn't right I want to be able to take it back to the store and have it replaced. Total spent 0000, total time involved, maybe an hour.

You can see the monitor first at local store,
then order from a dfferent online store.

Unless the store allows you to open the monitor and connect to a computer to test it before purchase, you may not get a perfect one, and you may damage it when you transfer it back home. So what's the difference of buying monitor from local and online? Why pay huge extra and sales tax?

<< So what's the difference of buying monitor from local and online? >>

1) Unless you get a monitor where the vendor will cover the shipping charges to get a monitor back to them -- Onvia is one of the few that covers the shipping and 2) Unless you get a company that has a warranty like KDS -- which is quite a generous warranty, you'll be stuck having to pay approximately $40 is shipping charges to get your monitor back to some destination. Purchasing locally allows you to return the item that same day and get your credit back.

Yes, I'm all for saving a $100 wherever possible. However, my latest dealings on a on-line monitor purchase that went bad were less than pleasing. It's been two months since I made the inital purchase. I'm waiting on my credit to my credit card. This has cost me money in interest charges. Plus, it took me 2 calls to get the monitors picked up each time. Even though Onvia issue call tags, they were not acted on and after two weeks of my monitor sitting in my house near the front door awaiting UPS' arrival, I had to make another call. Yes, it's nice of Onvia to pick up the shipping charges, but between the interest on my credit card and having to walk around monitors waiting to be picked up for over a month along with my time making the calls to customer service -- I've lost more than the $100 I would have saved. Lots of people don't have money to burn, but time is also money.

Top #1 reason to why NOT to buy a monitor online.

I used to work at mail center and our UPS guy tell us horror stories of how they treat the packages at the shipping centers. They were particularly *nice* to items marked with fragile or looked expensive. Even if you get your monitor who knows what it went through to get to you and how that might affect it in the future. Not to mention most companies (ie AccessMicro et al) like to ship items in their original packaging (like my Yamaha speakers, not even tape over the box to prevent it from being opened, good thing they have a shipping ctr near me, I hate to see it cross the good ole USA like that).

sorry to go on like that but one has to admit that's a good reason to avoid monitors online ...hey can anyone tell me why my package from UPS resembles a mangeled football???

The 195E is a regular Trinitron, while the 195TF (tf for "true flat") is the newer flat Trinitron.
