Hey guys, Im running Kazaa Lite 1.6.1 on my computer and recently have run into a problem. I have a cable internet connection and could get speeds up to 200kb/s using Kazaa. I recently installed a Linksys router and for some reason now I cant seem to get a download to go over 1kb/s. Anyone know what the problem could be? All other downloads, file sharing utils seem to have stayed at the same great speeds. Im clueless here. Thanks!

Does kazaa in anyway have bandwidth throttling agents if you do not share anything? I don't use kazza so I don't know anything about it. If they do you are probably being throttled since it may appear that you are not sharing anything since you have added a firewall to your connection.

Stupid idea, but i figured I'd through it out anyways.

you may be sharing files, but does the firewall prevent connections or did you forward the proper ports?

try forwarding port 1214. oh, and make sure you have SPI disabled on the Filters tab, or else port forwarding wont work.

okay well I tried forwarding port 1214 and that didnt help my speed at all. I know that the files are being shared too because people are downloading off of me as we speak, even though they are dl'ing slowly off of me too

It's probably an MTU packet size mismatch. Those routers can be a little picky of machine MTU. You'll need to adjust either the MTU of your router or your computer with DrTCP. I had a similar problem with the speed of SMTP transmissions after upgrading the firmware of my Linksys router.

What is this MTU you speak of? I have the same problem with my SMC barricade router. And Im clueless on how to adjust anything on it.

MTU = Maximum Transmission Unit. It's the size that data packets going through your router can be. I think they're standardized at 1500 for ethernet, but you can adjust it a little to make it work better. I belive I had to set mine at 1492.

Usually, DSL reports has some good information on MTU mismatches and such.

On a linksys router, you can adjust it in the advanced/filters page.

edit: Here's a page that describes MTUs that I dug up.
