Kaz Matsui pwns some Americans.

Link

Check out the video called "Matsui's smart play plates two". If I were him after that play, I'd go all Lebron James on them, "You don't got it like I got it."

smart baserunning by kaz. 2nd basemen should've gone for the 4-6-3 double play or the 4-2-3 double play (tougher because the catcher has to wheel and deal behind the batter running up to first). should not depend on a tag on that play because that'll exactly happen to you, smart by kaz to keep the pickle going long enough also so both runs come in.

meh... I thought it might be something amazing or noteworthy... scoring two runs on a double-play is not noteworthy.

I want my two minutes back...

what happen?

nothing worthy of its own ATOT post, but anyways-- cliffs:

1) Mets are playing Diamondbacks. Mets are batting with the bases loaded and one out.
2) Matsui is on first base.
3) Mets batter hits ball to the SS for what look to be a double-play ball.
4) SS throws to first (WTF?) for the first out, and one run scores, but they now have Matsui is a rundown between first and second.
5) Matsui runs back and forth long enough to allow an extra runner to score before being tagged out.

Kaz Matsui?
He it .255 with an obp of .300 last year.
He's lucky he still is on a major league team this year.
In the video he did nothing except what every player does when he gets caught in a rundown.
It was the other team that took its eyes off the runners and allowed them to score.

Most of the time I see the Americans running straight into the baseman as though they have a chance.

Then you probably don't watch a lot of baseball.

Everytime I've seen a rundown, the runner has extended it for as long as he can..

You also said he hit it to SS, how much baseball do you watch? jk

Most runners will try to get into a rundown, though.

He hit it to the 2B.

that wasn't smart base running that was the 2Bman being a dumb@ss

It was actually both. But nothing uncommon, either.

This was from last August anyway.

Edit: Actually, after watching again, the 2B didn't screw up too badly. There was no way he was going to double up Beltran if he had thrown to second. He might have been smart to just get the force out, though.
