This would be like Ford and Chevy merging or something! I'm not sure what to think about this...one the one hand, both of these companies have built some amazingly innovative and just plain fast as hell bikes over the years so who knows what they could do with combined resources. On the other hand a merger would mean one less choice at the bike store, one less manufacturer on the racing scene, and possibly a slide into complacency design-wise as there is now one fewer competitor?

Not to mention what the new co's name would be....Kawazuki? Suzkawa? Kawasuzukisaki? eep.:Q

Kawa doesn't have nice cruisers? Check out the Drifters and then get back to me. Those are some sweet ass scoots. They've got the old Indian look going but with a modern quality.

*sigh* I really hope this doesn't come to pass. I know they're both thinking "massive profits" but it will bite them in the caboose in the long run. It is my experience that motorcycle enthusiasts are very brand-loyal and this kind of merger will simply alienate both Suz and Kawi fans. I know I'd be PO'ed if Triumph merged with, say, BMW. I like Triumphs...I don't want any other kind of bike and I especially wouldn't want my Tri cross-pollenated with a Beemer. They're both nice bikes in their own right, but the personality of each brand would be lost in the shuffle I think.

Additionally, AMA racing in the US is already having some problems...what would effectively amount to the loss of one manufacturer on top of everything else wouldn't help matters. With Harley bowing out of the VR1000 factory effort as of this year that would leave just Yamaha, Kawazuki, Honda and Ducati. :frown:

On a lighter note, check out the latest entry into the new four-stroke GP class:

Aprilia RS3

Three cylinders, pneumatic valves (!), optional carbon swingarm.....

I think I need to be alone for a minute..

Yikes...

oh well as long as they get rid of teh GS and keep the Ninja500R.

But both companies are great, personally they should join forces and keep the best of the lot + a few dupicates.. like the Ninja ZXR6.. I love that bike.
