Where are the A10-7800 and A8-7600 laptops? 65 W/45 W and a few games on it sounds fun and I can use it for work too, right?

The i7-4900MQ is 47W and the i7-4930MX is 57W (according to ark.intel) but I would never want one on my lap. :awe:

It's certainly possible. Could be a lower cost solution than an intel+Nvidia GPU.

Issue is AMD wont' get the design wins
and if they do, they don't market it well.

Where laptops are concerned I would highly recommend AMD A8 or A10 if you are using integrated GPU

AMD in this regard is miles ahead of intel. You can get sub $500 A10 and A8 laptops and they would blow out even a i7 $800 laptop using IGPU

Unless you getting a Dedicated GPU thats a different story the intel would be much better. But A10 pretty much satisfies most games these days at an acceptable settings like around medium some games it can even run on High older games that is.

Yes, i'm not interested in dedicated graphics because it seems to be overpriced.

I'm an AMD fan and know they're just as good as Intel in games because most are GPU limited (Check the Benchmark link here on Anand).

The new processors are the A10-7400P, A10-7300, A8-7200P, and A8-7100. The best deal I could find was $500 for an A10-7300. It has 10
(4 CPU + 6 GPU) cores, DDR3-1600 @ 20 watts. Any better than that?

I don't think you are going to find better than that A10.

Personally I would never buy a gaming laptop. I would take a AMD A10 APU laptop for gaming on the GO or whatever and use the extra cash to upgrade or build a desktop OC with a i3 or FX 6300 AMD.

Actually for less money a FX 6300 is better than a i3 especially since the 6300 can overclock.

I am however happy with my 4150 i3. But if not for the dead AM3+ socket I would have taken the 6300 in a heartbeat over the i3

Yeah, I have a fx6300+nv760 for my desktop. I'm thinking about getting a laptop for multipurpose.

^ there we go you think like me.

In that case you will do fine with that A10

Now if you could get a 14 incher lappie with a A10 that would be awesome too bad there are none. All are 15 inchers. I think 14 is the sweet spot

Some benchmarks of this great A10 performer would be nice.

Yes we do.

The AMD mobile processors have a Max/Base clock. Does that mean the Hz is at Max speed when the processors are being heavily used? If so then that's 3.4ghz in games.

Is this for travel or just to use around the house apartment? Chrome remote desktop (or whatever they call it) + steam home streaming means even though I no longer have room for an office, I can use my Chromebook like a big bad desktop, while the actual computer behind the curtain is tucked away where nobody can see it. Much cheaper than buying a gaming laptop, and the Chromebook is better as a dumb browsing machine than anything else I've used (and cheap)

The first thing to ask yourself is are you ok with this level of performance?

That's a review of the A10-7300 laptop.
The laptop runs at a 1366x768 resolution (which really you can't utlize a higher resolution in gaming anyway and the low resolution does help your battery life).

The only games you will run are games from 2011 on LOW GRAPHICS SETTINGS.
New games will simply not work on this, even at the lowest graphical settings possible.
So forget, Battlefield 4(This game won't even start apparently...), Thief, Watch Dogs, AC Unity, Dragon Age Inquisition, etc.

If you're happy simply playing older games (or Dota2/LoL at low quality settings), then this is for you.

Don't expect more than 4-5 hours of battery life when using normally (not gaming).

Yea, that is the problem with Kaveri, especially in power constrained laptops. I would love to buy my grandson a gaming laptop in the kaveri price range (500 to 600 dollars) but I want it to last several years for him, and dont want to buy him one that will be so limited in performance. They are just so tantalizingly close, but can not quite get over the hump to play all games at decent settings. And I am talking about demanding "last gen" games like Metro Last Light and similar. I have not seen any tests on recent games like DA:I, Watchdogs, ACU, etc., but considering they are very demanding on both the cpu and gpu, I doubt they would play at all well even at 760p.

look at the review i mentioned.
They won't play even if you set the detail to low at 720p.
That's what i'm interested in. The Kaveri and 820m are close at $500.

Clarify the games you're going to play please.

I don't think a laptop is worth it for gaming unless at least a R7 is used. The performance difference is pretty huge and I see them on newegg for around $750.

It really helps if you answer what games you plan on playing...

I weigh them all in because I dont play only certain games. But if you insist here are two that stood out the most.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter

High Setting: 18.2 FPS | 30.6 FPS Integrated vs M265

-------------------------------

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

High Setting: 18.4 FPS | 28.7 FPS Integrated vs M265

If you're planning on playing all games, especially games moving forward, then this laptop won't work.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I don't need to know every single game you play just a general idea. Do you plan on playing new games like AC Unity, Dragon Age Inquisition, The Witcher 3 etc? Because if so, this laptop ain't playing Triple A title games in 2015.

Edit: Also do you plan on taking the laptop apart/are you willing to do so? If you aren't, I'd just give up on the idea of mobile gaming altogether. Laptops are dust magnets for interiors. Dust SEVERELY degrades your laptop performance (My laptop literally can't even play Dota if I haven't cleaned it out in awhile). So if you are looking for something low maintenance to play games, expect to do maintneance on your laptop once in awhile (Dust blower every so often, probably once a year take it apart for a good interior cleaning).

I play games like Resident Evil 4 and Dark Souls 2. I wouldn't be interested in next-gen games obviously because that'd beat the point of buying a cheap laptop.

As long as you stick to basic games you're ok then. That's what I been trying to get from you when I asked you what games do you want to play.

Put the game on lowest settings possible, set the resolution to your native resolution (768p), and you should be able to get 30 FPS averages for a number of games.

You may even get some new games if you're talking about the M265 option.

Just realistic settings (aka lowest possible) and you're ok. Your biggest enemy will be minimum frame rates though.

Has anyone else noticed that this ACER Laptop uses the ATI Catalyst 13.351.1002.1002 (2013 driver) for a 2014 APU Laptop model ??? o_O

For example, Catalyst 14.4 is 14.10.1006

I dont believe this driver even supports the Kaveri iGPU.

From the link above,

Screenshot_2014_07_04_16_26_25.png

If this laptop comes with this driver then i really dont know what to say about ACER.
Also, if notebookcheck benched with this driver, then the entire gaming benchmarks are irrelevant.
