Kaveri idle power draw

idle power consumption seems totally over the top. Actually for all CPUs in the reviews. What we need is a review with a matching PSU. Using 1250w (or 750, 860, ..) PSU for reviewing kaveri seems not very intelligent to me.

40W idle power for 1250W means a little over 3% load. I don't think we'll get any good efficiency at that load. 40W of 750W is something over 5%, still sucks.

As we know from this source:
http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/468...which-one-is-the-most-efficient-225-watt-test

low-power efficiency is nowhere near where it should be.

somebody please review A8-7600 with something like picoPSU.

I don't know about Kaveri but my 6800K uses 22W at idle with an ITX board. I'd expect Kaveri to be similar to slightly better at idle. The real kicker is load power. The 6800K can draw 100W with an absolute maximum of 120W for short periods running full load (CPU+GPU), and is thus not suitable for smaller pico PSUs. I'd expect the 95W Kaveri to be similar. You'd likely have more luck with the 65W or even 45W versions if you intend to go small form factor.

Hope it helps... 😉

From the same site:

Kaveri boards idle power: 31.2 to 38.4 W
Kaveri boards with CB15: 114 to 168 W
I didn't find out if this is the system incl. PSU or just the board power connectors?

Most recent review of Kaveri A8-7600 with Asrock FM2A88X Extreme6+ shows dramatic improvement in power reduction. Would be interested in using this in a new cool gaming / HTPC too.
