So I recently built a computer and thought I would post some bench marks. Any help on optimizing or tweaking parts would be helpful.

components:
kaveri 7850k cooled with 110
mushkin 2400 16gg
asus r9 290
asus a88x-pro
samsung and kingsten ssd
and put in a corsair air 540

catzilla:
9471
Geekbench 3:
2633 single
8271 multi
Fire Strike
6953

Color me confused, why you would purchase an APU, just to turn around and pair it with a high-end discrete card (R9 290)?

If you want to stick with AMD get a 760k instead. You can over-clock the shit out of it! Kaveri isn't the way to go with this build mate. Not if you're buying a dGPU. No sir!

just make sure the ram is running at the right speed on the bios or with cpuz. happy benchmarks

You are stupidly CPU limited. No reason to have anything above a midrange card like a 260 or 270 with the 7850k. You just dont have the CPU power to warrant higher end graphics.

Upgrade to the intel i5 and you will still potentially be CPU bottle necked in some games, but at least you will be pairing a high power CPU to the high powered GPU you have. You are wasting most of the GPUs potential.

I agree that the cpu is a big limiting factor but this is my first built and wanted to try something different. I was reading all I could about getting the memory to run at 2400 must I have yet to figure it out. Anyone with some tips on how to accomplish this?

I would switch to intel but seeing as how the board and chip are brand new I would rather use this set up to find out a little more about computers and then perhaps change some parts.

Computers aren't fashion or art, "trying something different" usually means buying a machine that's too slow, too expensive for what it is, or both.

Regarding the memory, high memory clocks only matter when using the IGP in the APU. Since you have a discrete card, it doesn't really matter what you run the RAM at.

This, unless you have some use for the IGP faster RAM wont really do much.

If you really want to set up the RAM you will need to go into the BIOS and manually set it, the XMP profile didn't work for my RAM but manually setting it and it was stable.

I think mine are at 2400MHZ CAS 10 1.63v

thanks mnewsham i will try again to set the ram speed manually. mfen i was not aware of my intentions of trying to be fashionable and artsy. But now that I am made aware of my own underlying reasons for putting a computer together I will make sure to throw some lacy shit around the case.

Tried to set the ram speed and it seemed to revert back to a slower speed. since the census seems to be that ram speed is not a huge factor I will leave it as is.

check what your RAM is rated for CAS speed. voltage, etc. then manually set them. I gave you mine as an example, however you most assuredly have different RAM than me and will need to adjust yours accordingly.
