Katharine McPhee signs recording contract

Doesn't that happen every time?

I don't know if they've improved the way they do the voting on the final round, but my understanding is that at least the first few times both numbers were at max capacity during the entire voting period - so the winner would be determined by whose fans hung up the fastest. Who really knows who would have won if everyone who wanted to vote was able to.

I just think its stupid to say you have one winner when you have more than one. Either say you have multiple winners or fix the system IMHO.

Well, only one gets the title of "American Idol." 😉

I think a good solution to this problem would be to cancel the show. 😛

That's what I thought...

Yep. Both Kelly Clarkson and Afro Boy signed contracts. Both Reuben and Clay signed contracts. Both of last year's winners (can't remember their names) signed contracts.

Whether you hear from them again or not is a completely different story. Only Kelly Clarkson has had any real success and that was after her AI contract ended.

Best suggestion EVER!

Carrie Underwood has also done well for herself.

Oh man, that'll never happen, that show is truly a force when it comes to ratings.

I thought Carrie Underwood has a good future in country music. I remember listening to the radio and hearing her song on the radio station and the DJ saying she was an American Idol winner.

Heh..I don't listed to country so that's why I haven't heard her. She has had success though looking at her Wiki entry.

Move to Texas, it will grow on you. 😉
I listen to almost everything though.

If the runner up is good, they should be signed. Note that fantasia's runner-up didn't get squat really, because she sucked.

Who really knows who would have won if everyone who wanted to vote was able to.

It's decided by text messages in the end, since thats the only kind of vote that can't be saturated.

so what it REALLY comes down to is... which contestant's home area is "rich" enough to have the most cell phone users!

Heh...I lived in Corpus Christi, TX my last three years of high school. Still never really grew on me. 😀 Though I did like "God Blessed Texas" by Little Texas.

Alabama must really be rich then - Reuben Studdard, Bo Bice, Taylor Hicks

Don't think so... it comes down to whose fans have the most auto-dialers. If they limited it to 5 votes per phone line then it would be moderately less absurd. Right now for all we know it could be 200 fans using autodialers that are deciding the vast majority of results.

It took nearly 15 years for it to grow on me. 😉 😛
