Kaspersky vs Zone Alarm (or something else)?

NIS is the new Norton Internet Security. It has been getting top ratings by all reviewers.

But - of the two you mentioned, Kaspersky.

Honestly 05-06 were the worst, 07 improved, 08 was good. 09 ROCKS. People here who HATE Norton are now running it, and it's one pretty much every major review. '10 will be even better*

Zone Alarm makes a fine standalone firewall, but I wouldn't rely on their security suite as an anti-malware application. AFAIK, they don't even submit their anti-virus/spyware app to the major labs for testing. That should tell you something.

Kaspersky is by far the best of those two, but one prominent testing lab (A-V Comparatives) shows it has some trouble with false positives. You might also consider NOD32, NIS or even Microsoft LiveOneCare. The latter was considered a joke until recently, but it's catching up fast with decent detection rates and almost no false positives. Whether or not that will continue, we'll see.

Regardless of which you choose, you should also implement mechBgon's security measures. Security apps are great, but they're only one layer of an effective overall defense scheme.
