Kaspersky is saying legit files and programs are "very dangerous" threats??

I just installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 trial to check it out and compare it to Avast. I did a scan on my computer and supposedly it found a lot of threats, but when I look at the logs, they are all legitimate files or programs (see attachments).

What's the deal? What do you suggest I do?

Antivir hits on BartPE for me. That has some tools that can be used for hacking, so no real surprise. I don't know what's up with all those other files though :^/

Those are vulnerabilities in your currently installed software, meaning outdated programs, not actual malware. Kaspersky will detect outdated/vulnerable software in addition to actual threats. You should probably update those programs to the newest version, or apply any security patches if possible. That should get rid of the warnings.

I did try to disinfect them, but all it did was prompt me to delete a program that I know is legit. I clicked "skip" (don't do anything) twice for that program, and then it just stopped. It didn't try to disinfect anything else. I'm guessing that's normal based on what you just said about having to update the programs?

So the Internet Security includes vulnerability scanning? That's pretty cool.


BTW, Secunia's PSI utility will give you links to the patches or updates that fix the vulnerabilities it discovers, so that might be worth using too.
