Hi can anyone with Kaspersky internet suit 2009 tell me how do you block a program from going on the internet but not stop the program from running. For instance if i want to use img burn but i don't want it to do updates. (img burn isnt the program i just used it as an example) I don't have a particular program in mind just general usage.

Also i see Mcafee and norton have plugins that when you do a website search there are green check marks that let you know that website is safe. Are there any other companies that have this that you all use?

From extensive personal experience with the McAfee version, I don't recommend placing any reliance on their ratings. They frequently rate bad sites good, and sometimes rate good sites bad as well. And good sites can become bad sites if they're hacked. Best bet: plan for the worst.

Dont know about Kaspersky firewall settings but check out WOT http://www.mywot.com/ Way better than Mcafee/Norton. Browser plugin has many options so can be made completely transparent untill there is need for blocking/warnings. Can dump warnings all together and only block RED sites which almost certainly are unwanted.

There is same danger about WOTs blocking as there is for Mcafees but seems they make more effort in removing spam/wrong flagging. They are aware of spammers/idiots wanting to play rating-system. Combine that with flexible add-on and it might just be considered good next year as well :) If they fail shop will close fast, users will be annoyed - good argument to keep on their toes. Mcafee/Norton does not depend on this.

Ive seen them ask users for ideas on how to obtain information on latest bad sites - doubtful if Mcafee/Norton has similar aggressive approach. They probably base blocking on subscriptions to fewer lists, does not work as hard and so are not as effective. WOT say they have 100+ sources collecting sites for them - besides userbase.

If you know some of those sources it wont take long to find sites with files not picked up by AVs - but blocked by WOT. Depends on which AV you use but if computer has clickhappy users, WOT definitely serves a purpose regardless of anti-program.
