Well... its embarrassing, but not that ironic. Kaspersky specializes in virus detection - an intrusion tends to rely on manually executed exploits of some kind of code. If they specialized in firewall and ips technologies, then they'd be in really big trouble.

true but you'd think they would be overall more security minded than other companies so this kind of thing wouldn't happen....

I think this was a case of them not fully investigating third-party security more so than a breach of their security.
