Kaspersky AV Personal 5

Well so much for Kaspersky AV Personal being any good. I mean it seems nice when it isn't locking up the system on startup, or the last one was when I was doing a update then it locked up the desktop on that too.

All mind you on a AMD X2 3800+, sheesh like it isn't fast enough to handle it, even though I'm sure the software isn't x64 optimized. Still with this much speed and 2GB of ram there is no reason for this.

Anyhow I'm ready to give it the boot and try to find something else. I have BitDefender 9 Standard, maybe I'll try it out again, now that I have UPHClean installed, which helps now for the longer delay when logging out, samething of which happens with BitDefender.

I was running BitDefender before, so I'm a bit reluctant to try it again, it seemed like it bogged the system down too.

Besides these two any other suggestions?

THANKS

1.8GHz Duron with 512MB RAM, WinXP Pro 32-bit

AthlonXP 2500+ with 512MB RAM, WinXP Pro 32-bit

AthlonXP 1800+ with 1GB of RAM, WinXP Pro 32-bit

Athlon64 3000+ with 1GB of RAM, WinXP Pro 32-bit

^ no problems with KAV5 on any of those. Maybe you're doing something inadvisable like running multiple security programs at once? Checked the Windows Event Viewer to see what the deal is?

Nope the only thing I have running in the background is Logitech Setpoint for my MX518 mouse that's it, this and Kaspersky are the only two things running, I don't use the XP Firewall and the only thing I have as far as security is a hardware firewall which has nothing to do with all of this.

My Hawaiian brother seems to have some weird issues. First the chkdsk problem (I don't really have an answer yet) and now this. :(

FWIW I have Kaspersky v5 installed on a few of my shop pc's at the office. The slowest one is a Duron 900, 256MB PC133, 80GB 7200, XP Pro and it runs ok.

I've heard of others having Kaspersky issues so you're not alone. Did you have another AV installed at one point or is it a clean XP Pro 32-bit install? BitDefender is an excellent AV so maybe you could just use it for now. Otherwise you might want to consider a clean install. Don't forget the nForce IDE drivers. :p

I had this happen once when I upgraded to a later build. Uninstalled it all rebooted and reinstalled again and all was well. I also have the Logitech drivers in startup for my 518.

Yo ho John, nope fresh install, I had BitDefender 9 installed and it seemed a bit slugghish on the box too, BUT one thing I keep getting is with the startup scans until they get done it locks up the desktop, now I can go in and disable them, but hey what's the point of having this thing if I can't get it all to work right.

Then when I open apps, windows, etc.. and I see KAV scans them a quick sec when it's keeping a eye on things going on, sometimes the respone time for the apps and windows opening is slowed down a little.

Then I just went to do a update and when I was clicking on it after the update was in progress it locked up the desktop for a few secs like this.

It just seems to jamm things up from time to time.

John by the way if I uninstall KAV does it do a good job removing everything or might it leave behind some system files, dlls, in the system?

Typically after uninstalls I run jv16 power tools to clean the reg out.

THANKS

I thought the AMD driver was for Cool 'n Quiet that is on my mobo cd. But Cool 'n Quiet is disabled because I run SLI.

Ok I loaded the CD again, yes it says on it Cool 'n Quiet driver.

What AMD driver is there?

THANKS
