Kaspersky won 2nd place and Eset 3rd place in Av-Comparatives in the 2009 summary report. Symantec was 1st.

Personally I like Symantec's 2010 products. I like Eset as well, I just don't like their price.
Kaspersky is a little too quirky for my liking.

Voted ESET. Used it on two laptops in the last 3-4 years and it works great.

Used Kaspersky for 18 months and I'm done with it. It broke my Vista sidebar during an IE8 install (at first I thought it was IE8 - took me over an hour to trace it back to Kaspersky - other people had the same problem). Then KAV 2010 made my main computer (a Core i7 with 12GB of ram) run like a dog. The "solution" from other people who had the same issue was to go back to KAV 2009. Bye bye Kaspersky.

Using Norton 2010 now and I really like it. They overhauled it from the ground up for the 2009 version, and it's been getting great reviews.

So, I pretty much agree with UsandThem.

For me detection is everything! It's much better to restore a recent clean image of your hard drive for "removal" 🙂.

I am in the same boat.

I purchased a 3 year Kaspersky Internet Security lisence and was happy with it until KIS 2010. Running it on a Windows 7 PC with SSD, it took it to it's knees although I actually returned the SSD to Intel who agreed with my claims that the drive was faulty.

I have also noticed a degredation in performance under Vista 64.

My Kaspersky liscence expires in about 50 days so I am looking to move onto the newest, latest and greatest AV with Firewall and the like.

ESET was my likely choice as when I purchased Kaspersky Internet Security, those two were the best on the market.

Any opinions on which one is better than the other .. or is it a safe bet that if I go with either of them that I'll have very few issues?

I use Avira free, and if I wanted to pay for A/V, I'd use Avira pro. I use the built in firewall. 3rd party firewalls are a PITA, and do very little for security.
