Kaspersky 2009: How is it?

I'm interested too. I'm currently using McAfee VirusScan Enterprise offered free by my school. But BestBuy is selling Kaspersky for $20 this week...should I go for it?

I actually did the upgrade on my home computer anyway. So far so good. I haven't noticed any bloat. User interface is different but Kaspersky is worth the $$$.

On my home system (64-bit Vista Ultimate with Software Restriction Policy), I installed the trialware. It didn't go smoothly. It was producing near-total lockups and Data Execution Prevention faults when I rebooted after the first part of installation. I was pretty close to hitting System Restore and taking another run at it before giving up, but I got it installed. It has crashed a few times since then, but nothing catastrophic.

We had KAV7 on two computers at work, so I upgraded them one at a time (both 32-bit XP Pro SP3 systems). They seem OK and didn't have the issues I saw on my home system. I like the vulnerability-checking feature, which is a timely feature in this day & age.

I just found a bug with what appears to be the web portion of Kaspersky. I notice with IE7 that the page would sort of start to lockup but not really. It's hard to describe. If it happens again (I turned that feature off for now) I will take a screen shot. But basically it's as though the browser is going to crash and you stop seeing certain elements of the page. Hopefully we can keep a little log going here for those who are interested in KAS8.

Just an update. I noticed whenever I download things from Usenet, Kaspersky goes crazy and bogs my machine down. This never happened with version 7. Perhaps this is a bug?

Just got Kaspersky 2009 on my 2 home machines and my laptop about a week ago. Didn't use the previous version, but gotta say its a lot better than avg8. Feels less bloated, it updates, scans etc and I didn't even notice when it did the full scan, as apposed to avg which poped up everytime there was no net connection and was quite evident to see when it was scanning.

So far so good!

Is there a free upgrade conversion for people who have active 6/7/8 version products? I think I remember they had a free 6/7 and 7/8 offer as a standing thing, though I never ended up doing it since I used a different AV provider in the end.

I know with KIS7/KAV7 you can upgrade to the 9 version for free if your license is still good. Not sure on the older ones.

When you say it "goes crazy," what's it doing exactly? Alert boxes or ???

I installed KIS 2009 a few days ago and so far it's been great (I switched from Symantec). Full scans are actually faster than Symantec and I'm not noticing any buggy or bloated behavior so far.

MechBgon, et al, I had to uninstall KIS 7 (or maybe it was 8) because the XP's feature fast user switching suddenly became exceedingly slow and would eventually bring my Q6600/4GB XPSP2 system to a halt. Maybe a signature or program update introduced the problem, as it did not exist previously.

Numerous people reported the same thing, even on Kaspersky's support forums. I found that disabling KIS solved the issue, but having no AV protection is another issue. I installed AntiVir Personal, but it offers no spyware protection (I later came to understand) in that version. Under AntiVir, the problem FUS issue did not return.

Some have reported that the issue remains in KIS9. What are your results performing FUS with KIS9?

Thanks.

well, i think it is fatastic when i give it my first shot.

but after i update it into 2009. it slows down my PC horribly although it adds a lot of new functions but i am considering choose another antivirus software.

Just had an Issue a week ago which required me to reinstal windows on my laptop.
After the update which required restart, before I restarted I changed firewall settings.
Well anyways everytime my comp would get into windows it would BSOD.

Thats the only issue I had so far, otherwise two other comps working fine with it.

Happened to me on 7. I added Newsleecher to exceptions and its fine now. Just add it to exceptions. I never noticed my CPU was being killed by Kaspersky for scanning News downloads.

So what is the best Anti Virus software for a laptop?I have Kaspersky Internet Security Version 6.0 in the box. Should I load it on the laptop and not upgrade? Or get something else?

Norton Internet Security 2009. (Probably not the recommendation your expecting, but check the comments from other users [I work for SYMC]. Much better than KAV...)
