I don't know what is worse, him riding government jet for personal reasons, or him dating a wrestler.

Less spending, smaller government my ass. Why do people still but into the Republican Party bullshit??
Humans were never rational actors. It is a fallacy to expect to reason with us.
We can be trained and conditioned to operate that way, but it goes against our feral animal nature.
Propaganda wins because there are people who want to believe it. At a base level, they do not care if their ideas are real. They only want it to feel real. They want to be lied to.

Give them access to 24/7 news, and then social media. Most the public's brains are straight up cooked. Team sports dialed to 11.

I think you have something there. There's no other explanation. The idea that you paid your own money through taxes that became "OUR" money, and those less happy to pay want to spoil it all, so it's OK to squander it and leave the conclusion that all government operations for the common good are futile.

That's what this looks like. There's corruption, and then there's corruption intended to look like a cesspool of toxic festering rot.

And that's why democracy isn't the solution but democracy is the problem.

You expect dumbasses who can't do a^2 + b^2 = (a + b) (a - b) or even balance their own bank accounts to make smart decisions for the country??

That's how we get the politicians we get.. those who fail at getting jobs or creating them want to lash out at everyone else and want to starve everyone else by being dictator in chief because they can convince other dumbasses they're the greatest and they're gonna win sooooooooo much.

Sound familiar??

Isn't it a^2 - b^2?

It's been a while since I took algebra and I did drink 3 2xIPA last night.

False, but a big step towards being correct by sentence two.

Democracy requires an informed electorate, and your algebra mention would indicate you get that. So now think of democracy as a car engine. Let's say a 3rd party intentionally filled the fuel tank with orange juice, because they hate the car and it working for others.

Now that the car won't run, do we blame the internal combustion engine?

Democracy requires vigilance, and many of the people supposed to be maintaing that vigilance have thrown in with the christofascists. That's the problem. Democracy works when elections are fair, when courts aren't taken over by shopped for judges who use precedent as toilet paper. It's why Franklin said we've got "A republic. If you can keep it." He literally warned "It's on you guys."

Reminder, you didn't see stupidity or fascism championed as virtues on the right until Pedo Trump showed up. Remember when racists weren't popular for the majority of people?

That's exactly my point..

Democracy needs to be like a licensed right rather than universal right.

If your point is we need a new aristocracy that decides for the rest of us, you don't have a point, you have another version of 'only land owners and the wealthy have a say.' No idea where you heard democracy is a universal right. It isn't, we restrict participation in elections to citizens and non felons, have for some time.

Bad news: your licensing idea wouldn't address ignorant voters being gullible and getting conned, at all. In all likelihood that would just enrage and marginalize people even more.

Want to save our democratic republic? Instead let's reinstate the Fairness Doctrine, trash Citizens United like the garbage it is, and get religion the fuck out of government institutions as per the Constitution. Stopping the red state rape of national education would be extremely helpful as well I bet. There's just no reforming things for the better in a post truth world, facts have to matter again first.

We have long agreed on some fundamental ideas.

However, he took exception when I came to the conclusion that people are not inherently good. A belief held up by... well, any history book describing how we form tribes and murder each other. Plus, with how sparse and threatened the concepts of freedom and human rights are. I would argue that, even today, vast swaths of humanity are in a form of slavery or slavery adjacent. That our exception to that rule is fragile and even our own people greatly desire to conquer our institutions and send us right back into.... a more antiquated relationship between ruler and pleb, king and serf, master and servant.

If we are to hold onto whatever remains of our Democracy, our ideals.... I find it critical that we fully appreciate and understand how we got here. How fascism rises time and again. And why our people would not recognize it or not care when they vote. Human nature via irrationality and tribalism play a huge role in how we got here. Any future democratic institutions need to take them into account. Assuming there are any....

The wolf you feed dude, the wolf you feed.

You know how domesticated animals come to exhibit specific traits? We got them too. Human beings have domesticated themselves.
Of course, it's shit all the way down if you want it to be, but, look at the height of what we have achieved. We did that shit. I dont think we're done either. You want to judge the core of what we are by our worst of history? Or our best.

Remember. We come from nothing.

During Obama a tan suit was the scandal. This administration has scandals weekly.

Wonder why this country has differing standards of behavior for the black president?
