Karzai widdens lead, but can a run off be avoided?

As the Afghan election results come in in dribs and babs, amid widespread fraud claims,
it looks like Karzai has widened his lead to 46.2 % of the vote.

Unless Karzai exceeds 50%, it looks like a run off election with more anti election violence.

And I have to wonder if Karzai is up to the job, he may be, IMHO a basically well intentioned man, but seems to have the backbone of a chocolate eclair in terms of standing up to corruption. And since he spends over 90% of his time out of Afghanistan trying to raise funds, its even more of a problem.
