Per the OP, I will let Karma handle these things. People create their own hell.

Guy had a family, so my sympathies to them.

Maybe we can start to get our grid in order now that there are zero coal barons.

Oh he died of black lung. How ironic.

Correction: he claimed he died of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, but filed for black lung benefits? Doesn't seem right to me. Seems like he was fishing for benefits he didn't deserve. The benefits would actually go to his wife if he died. Just seems shady.

Congress should not give a penny to the black lung fund.

The miners who get this disease deserve something. The owners, like Bob, are the issue not the people who work deep under ground doing a very dangerous job.

If the Democrats get congress they shouldn't bother trying to help people in West Virginia who will spit on them anyways.

Despite working in the mining industry I've got little love for those at the top of the pyramid. Some of the richest and nastiest rent seekers in Australia are mining magnates. Bob here seems just as nasty.

And while I won't die of black lung, as you couldn't pay me enough to switch the the coal sector, there's every chance I'll wind up with silicosis or mesothelioma.

Damn that's a bleak outlook☹️ what do you do in the mining industry, if you don't mind sharing?

At the moment, hydrogeologist, working in the iron ore sector in Western Australia. I've previously worked in base metals and gold as well

It's actually not that bleak really if the risks are well managed. My personal risk is relatively low but it's probably another 10 or 20 years before I'll know if I've done any real damage. We do work around asbestiform minerals and crystalline silica, but we also take workplace health and safety and PPE seriously; much more so than what I've read about in the US, although I think that's probably pretty dependant on employer and jurisdiction.

No, if Democrats are going to start acting like Republicans, then we might as well let the Republicans destroy the country.

I have the same empathy for him as Trump has for the 232,084 (and counting) victims of COVID, which is fuck you.
