Karaoke Filter or Vocal Remover/Reducer?

I've tried using the Karaoke Filter in the Audio Editor included with Nero 6, but I can't get the vocals removed very well without killing the instrumental as well, which eliminates the purpose of a karaoke filter. I've put a mix together for my girlfriend who is trying out for a pageant, and she needs to sing along with it.

Here's the audio file if anyone wants to try out their own software:
http://homncruse.dyndns.org/downloads/mix.mp3 (1.90 MB)

I'm really only asking for some software that can do a better job than NERO, but if anyone is willing to give it a try themselves, that would be wonderful too! :)

Thanks in advance.

My experience with downloadable software programs ( and I've tried many ) is that they don't work very well without slaughtering instruments. A good sound technician should have the tools to do the job right, but often at a price.

(had to be done - not often the opportunity comes up in the software forum :p )

Have you looked at any of the karaoke sites to see if the song(s) of interest already exist as karaoke? Cost you some $$$, but probably a much better result then your likely to get rolling your own. That or practice at a karaoke club :)

No, I haven't tried karaoke versions of the songs because in general, they suck and it'll be a PITA to get everythin synched up again. But I suppose it's my only remaining option. I tried the program suggested above, but it had the same results as NERO -- totally killed the instruments too. I guess the reason why it has so much trouble is because the vocals and the instruments are about the same frequency.

Yeesh -- apparently, Karaoke versions of the songs in the mix just *DON'T* exist. Can anyone recommend a professional service that can do it with all the expensive equipment? How much does something like that usually cost?

Those songs are before my time. Post their titles and artists and perhaps somebody will find the karaoke version. Of course, you would then have to editing them yourself.

I Feel Pretty -- Westside Story
Que Sera Sera -- Doris Day
It's a Lovely Day Today -- Doris Day
Lullaby of Broadway -- Doris Day

I think those are the right artists, but I'm not sure. A couple of them have had different artists, but since it'll be the karaoke version, that doesn't really matter.
