Kanye West's "different" turn with 808s and Heartbreak

For those that actually give a ****, what's your take on this new album? I got a chance to download it this morning from Amazon's MP3 store and have been trying to wrap my brain around this change in stylistic direction for Kanye.

I wasn't sure what to think of the vocoder business when I first heard the sample of Love Lockdown a few months ago -- and then to hear it on the album today. But somehow, it seems to work. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to the whole album all the way through yet in one sitting, but I've already grown attached to Amazing and Paranoid.

That vocoder/perfect pitch sound is the most annoying thing to come to music since the one-man band. Honestly, who in the right mind thinks it sounds good? Robots? I bet they think it sounds good.

i dont like it. i hate the whole vocoder/autotune thing and to get a whole album of it is pure torture to me. i tolerate it though on 'paranoid' and 'amazing' because the beats/hooks are catchy on those tracks.

That's the thing, he's the master of hooks -- maybe that's why I haven't been too turned off to the vocoder -- yet.

I love Love Lockdown, as it is a far departure from Kanye's usual feat, and I still love it. However, when you say the ENTIRE album got autotoned, then I must say i will hold my reservations.
