Maybe in a vacuum, she wasn't the best candidate, but [we] exist in the context of all in which [we] live and what came before [us]. The continuity with the administration is a) important to avoid fracturing the party with stupid infighting a few months before the election, and b) important to signal that progressive policies championed by the administration remain as such going forward (to cut all ties might signal that many of those polices would be "loser things", relegating us back into politicians who champion policies more akin to Bill Clinton).
I'm not sure what you are arguing against. I know you were in these threads because I was all for Biden dropping out and you weren't, and I always said it has to be Kamala. I explicitly said it had to be her because otherwise it would be a shit show in the party. I said that a lot, and I said I wanted Kamala to be the candidate, also a lot. When people daydreamed about this or that candidate, I always said, it has to be Kamala when Joe is hopefully gone.

So anyway. Back to my comment - If someone said choose who you think would be the strongest candidate against Trump if we could seamlessly transition to them, let's make it more simple, I would not have picked Kamala as the best candidate. I would have said she is solid, but not the best. I'm saying now I think she was the best candidate after all.

So are you glad for having been so wrong about wanting Biden to drop out btw?

I'm glad he stepped back and we didn't have a complete shit show of a fight for top of the ticket. If he stepped back right after the debate as some were calling for, that's exactly what would have happened. Look at all the nincompoops that were throwing out all sorts of names that were not Harris.

Anyway, my issue with the whole affair is about the news media and social media which create narratives that feed off each other, even when they have little anchoring to reality. My other issue was this idea of dumping the top of the ticket (or the entire ticket) without a clear plan, leading to more infighting and Dems in Disarray stories as we are trying to prevent Mr 34 Felony Convictions from being reelected.

A developer telling homeowners that their most important asset, by far, has appreciated greatly thanks to a person they can vote for in November is a weird flex.
That the roof over your head equals money in your pocket is the most Boomer thing.
No, the price of housing is draining all wealth OUT of people. All people, everywhere. Except maybe the 0.1% with Wall Street and the big banks.

Prices (of all sorts) being much higher than four years ago is a huge detriment to the incumbent party. That is a pain that does not go away and people (wrongly) blame Biden.
Thankfully Republicans are a MAGA platform for a career criminal. The most difficult candidate for them to get elected again.

If we cannot beat the Republicans in November, then it is likely we never stood a chance, and prices would be the primary reason why.

'Pubs and 'Pub like thinking (me, me, me, mine, mine, mine) are why prices are up. People don't need $80,000 pickem up trucks to go get groceries or carry them (only, nothing else) to work. But how many are out there?

also I'm not convinced that a lot of independents (and maybe even a lot of dems) are ready to vote for a minority person as the first woman president. Just my .02 as a POC in this country.

God, I so hope that isn't true. Please, America, be better than I fear you are.

I feel like the plus side is that Harris provides such a refreshing contrast with both Trump and Biden, in terms of NOT BEING A MILLION YEARS OLD, that maybe even the mildly-racist and moderately-misogynist will forget about their prejudices in those departments?

I think it's a great idea for Republicans to keep explaining to all of us the nuances of race. For example, explaining to a room full of black people why the black candidate isn't black. And all these older white men, keep on explaining to women what they need to know about women's issues.

As far as America "not being ready" for a minority woman POTUS, I have my doubts as well. It may take running against an old, possibly senile and deeply ignorant Republican to make it happen the first time....or we'll collectively watch the old guy ramble about Hannibal Lecter, that great guy, and say "yep, still not ready, gotta have the white guy at the nuke button to make me feel more secure"

The daily show had a clip of Trump taking a swipe at Kamala for being 60. He "didn't know she was that old".

Yes Donald please draw more attention to you being 78.

Hillary came quite close and people liked her a lot less than Harris.

That is true, and she had the disadvantage that people somehow didn't yet know what a shitheel Trump was.

Then again, she's white. Also, being known is both a good and bad thing...like voting for an all-star game, a lot of people that can't be arsed to google stats/info for a minute or two will just choose something they know. I've heard a couple really dumb things about Harris this past week from people that don't follow politics.

Overall though, you are correct I think, that is a reason for hope.

Trump’s campaign is now going after (checks notes) Montel Williams because he and Kamala Harris dated in the '90s.

Nice job, Steve! Keep reminding people about that Vance couch meme! That’s why they pay you the big bucks!

And one more for the “Republicans are weird” file; Jesse Watters wants to know if there is video of the JD Vance / Couch sex tape.

Lol! ... In what world does it make sense to go on national TV to discuss a stupid meme that makes fun of your candidate? There’s just no way this is going to decrease the couch fucking jokes. Do they really not see that?

Also, prediction: Deep Fake couch fucking video will be posted within a day. Blur the couch to protect its privacy.
At first I was thinking "no one thinks he really fucked a couch" then I remembered how stupid a lot of people are.
Then I thought "oh, that's rich, Fox News saying that you can't make an outlandish claim without verifiable evidence"
That seems wildly fucking unlikely.
