Is there a thread on this already, didn't see one?

Only opening remarks thus far, but anyone else kinda find it politically questionable for the GOPers on the committee to concertedly attack Thurgood Marshall? Sure, 8 out of 10 Americans probably couldn't tell you who he is, but they had to figure the press would make an issue out of it. Calling one of the more celebrated justices in US history (not to mention the first black justice) an activist results-oriented "out of the mainstream" judge that one would be foolish to model themselves after seems at the very least poor optics for a party still struggling with minority constituency, and at the outside can be construed as a tangential attack on Brown v Bd of Ed, for which he is known as the arguing attorney. No question Marshall was a liberal, but did the GOP need to choose him as the ideal of what not to do? Yes, Kagan clerked for him, but I just see this as a poor decision.

She's already said the Constitution is a living document in the hearings. Filibuster time, she is unfit to be a supreme court justice.

Nice spin there jonks. This thread is going places...

There's been no questions yet friend, all we have are the opening statements, and 3 of the Gop senators on the committee brought up Marshall in a negative light. I ask, is that wise, as the WSJ article I linked also commented on the possibly riskiness of the strategy. I don't see how that's spin.

They're way past opening statements. I've been in the car listening for over an hour. You must be tuned into the bizarro world Kagan hearings.

If you'd like to give the Republicans advice, this is not the best place to do it.

It is spin. You don't understand what these hearings are, and as your posts generally follow a very vocal partisan progressive tone, you're going to exaggerate everything you think shows the GOP in a negative light.

These hearings play out more akin to, say, arbitration hearings in baseball. The player's agent shows the player in the most positive way possible - regardless of the truth, while the team owners show the player in the most negative way possible - regardless of the truth.

As the hearings draw out, questions asked, responses given, at the end you have a more complete view of her. Judge the Senators how they view her after the hearings, not during.

But, we're living in an era of instant hyper-partisan media, we all are screwed, not just your opponent of choice.

Kagan is Obama's Harriet Myers. Except of course that Myers actually had at least extensively practiced law. And of course that Bush's own party killed the Myers nomination whereas Obama's party are creating tornadoes patting him on the back.

The 5 4 decisions of the Supreme Clowns, and always the same 5 and 4, tells you only one thing, that truth and justice are a complete and total joke. The truth is who can pack the court with the most conservative or liberal assholes and come up with intellectually fancy and compelling lies.

In this way 5 states rights advocates interfered in Florida law and elected the country's biggest President asshole in history.

Not to take a cheap shot but every time she is on TV (especially in HD) I throw up a little in my mouth.

That being said, it might be her looks but it could also be the bull shit she is spewing.

LOL, I'm glad someone else posted this.

I was forcing myself to watch this on C-SPAN, but I was getting sick to my stomach :)
