Kaby Lake information.

As expected, backwards compatible.

Optane support is another word for NVME support in case anyone is confused.

Else nothing big. Full hardware Main10 decode, 5K support etc.

Any reason why this would not work with a DDR3 1151 board?

Only if the manufacturer doesn't release a BIOS update to make Kabylake chips compatible with it.

In any case, considering that they're claiming better CPU performance even though most info seems to be pointing to Kabylake sharing the same basic core as Skylake, it makes me wonder whether we're going to see eDRAM included as standard.

Are you expecting Kaby Lake to have faster GPU than AMDs last GCN 1.2 paired with DDR-4 at the same or close the same price points ???

I expect it to have a much more robust media decode/encode which is far more important than 3D graphics performance for most PC users. I have no idea how Kaby Lake will perform in 3D graphics.

Carrizo does not support fixed function HEVC Main10 Profile/10bit decoding or VP9 10bit decoding, it is pretty much irrelevant in 2016.

Unfortunately what you won’t find here is Main10 profile support, which is the profile for 10-bit color, and AMD has confirmed that 10-bit color support is not available on Fiji. As our in-house video guru Ganesh T S pointed out when looking at these results, Main10 is already being used in places you wouldn’t normally expect to see it, such as Netflix streaming. So there is some question over how useful Fiji’s HEVC decoder will be with commercial content, ignoring for now the fact that lack of Main10 support essentially rules out good support for some advanced color space features such as Rec. 2020, which needs higher bit depths to support the larger color space without extensive banding.

AMD products are essentially irrelevant in the PC market, which is why Intel has the market share that it does.

10 bit HEVC/VP9 in hardware is a big update, much more important than another 5% CPU speedup. This is what I'm looking for. So it definitely isn't just a renamed Skylake. Good to know that Kabylake is compatible with 100 series chipset.

You know the specs of the 2017 ZEN APUs ???

Im not saying they will have HBM but you worded like you have the final specs.

HBM is an expensive, high end technology and from the slides that have leaked the Zen based APUs are clearly aimed at mainstream price points, below Summit Ridge in terms of price/performance.

HBM2 is a technology for high end dGPUs, FPGAs, etc. It's not for cheap APUs aimed at $500 laptops.

They can do variants both with and without HBM.

An APU with 4C/8T + HBM could be priced quite high and still be competitive, because it would compete with a separate CPU/APU + discrete GFX card which costs a lot.

Hey, if you want to think Zen based APUs for mainstream PCs will have HBM2, then I am not going to try to stop you...🙂
