Hopefully I can get some help on this. I got the latest ry bios with the raid from bx boards. I have a maxtor 20.5G ata66 7200 drive that only works at ata33 on the hpt370 controller. Every time I select udma4 in the bios it doesn't work. It actls like the command was accepted but doesn't. Just shows what the last setting was so if i had udma2 would still show udma2 even though I chose udma4. Now if I chose udma3, it would show up as udma4 but the performance of udma3. I tried refashing but didn't fix the problem. Can anyone help me on this? Is there a problem with my drive with the hpt370 bios or is the bios missed up? I want this problemed resolve b/c I want to raid some maxtors if there isn't any problems but need to get the modes fixed first though. who can help me please?

Are you using an 80wire IDE strip? If you are using the standard IDE strip, your drive will only work at UDMA3. For a UDMA66 or UDMA100 you need a special IDE cable.

Yes I am using the correct wire. Got 3 of them, and all work b/c I did thought it might be that. It works perfectly at udma66 on the via controller but ont he hpt370 is a different story. Will not let me choose udma4 in the bios.

Hmmm, I am not sure on that one. I would e-mail Highpoint and see what they say. I would like to know how you make out cause I was considering doing the same myself. I am using the IBM 75GXP though..
Sorry I couln't help you further...

Well it should easily for you with that drive. Just make sure you install the drivers before moving the cable.

I forget where I read it at, I'll try to dig it up. But Maxtor's do not work well in raid. So if your going to try it, good luck. As far as your problem goes, have you disabled ata66 on the drive itself? Check to make sure it is enabled. Also try the drivers off of Bxboards. Here is the link. Download the driver pack unzip it and you'll see the zip file with the HPT370 drivers.

Already did that. Thats the bios I've been using. The drive works flawlessly on the via controller at ata66 but down grades to ata33 on the hpt. And I'm still working on comfirmation on the maxtors in raid on the hpt controller not the promise. I know they suck on the promise. I rather buy another 20g then buying a whole new set of drives.
