When i plug in the power supply to the power connector on the motherboard that supplies power to the cpu the computer refuses to start. when it is unplugged, the comp starts fine but threre are no graphics. i alse have ni idea how to plug the speaker in.

You didn't get that backward did you? If there is no power it cannot start up... I will assume you mean the 4 pin power connector which is used in addition to the 24 pin on modern boards...

There are many things it could be - faulty motherboard, faulty power supply etc, but most likely you have made a mistake somewhere. Have you mounted all the components correctly? Check for short circuits and loosely inserted cards. Are you following a build guide of some kind?

 
He's talking about the 4 pin cpu power connector. That plug has been around since the P4 was introduced.

Anyway, make sure you are plugging in the right 4 pin plug. There should be a specific plug that is labeled for the cpu.
