it's a decent board.. not sure if it has locks though... at least from what i remember, the earlier revisions didn't have locks... maybe it was fixed with a bios update...

i think the dfi lanparty ut 250 is probably the best socket 754 board out

You have one in your sig...aren't you using one yourself? I built a machine with a k8V SE Deluxe last year for a friend and it's still going strong. He games on it often and it runs 24x7. He beat HL2 and has played lots of UT2k4 without a single crash. I'd say that's solid.

In the non overclocked world, all computer parts run at their rated speed. There is a little tolerance level in that rated speed but if you go too high, it can cause instabilities due to corrupted data or you're just pushing the hardware to go way beyond what it can handle (probably some other technical reasons too). Good overclocking motherboards have "locks" that you can turn on if you're overclocking. These locks will basically set the speed of certain components to it's rated speed. Common components that have trouble are PCI devices and SATA hard drives. Not the best explanation, hope it helps.

my roommate got this board back when it was first released. he had many problems of just trying to get te mobo to run stable, i think he mentioned it was something with his ram. He had Kingston Value ram, im not sure exactly what model number. Couple of months later i built a system for a friend, and helped him choose this one since our options were limited at the time he was looking. His board runs stable right now, but now with increased regularity, whenever he boots up, it will prompt with an error stating system failed cpu test. His cpu was fine, because we tested on another machine. The board still works, but sometimes still gets the error. If i were in your shoes i would choose another board just to avoid future headaches.
