K8V: Booting pauses for 20 seconds for IDE

K8V SE Deluxe Booting pauses for 20 seconds just after it starts to boot.
It takes about 15~20 seconds to recognize, I guess, my primary IDE disk. After that it is a breeze, very fast.

To explain more specifically, I have a VIA raid 0 setup for boot device and an WD200 hard drive in a primary master IDE channel for storage. If I unplug(disconnect) the WD hard disk, booting is very fast, not pausing for 20 seconds trying to find(locate or recognize) IDE drives(my WD hard disk).

If I reconnect the WD hard disk, booting pauses back for about 15~20 seconds just after I start the computer.

What should I do? Is there any way to boot without pausing for 20 seconds with my hard disk?

Thank you for your prompt reply.
:brokenheart:

Check your Western Digital's jumper and ensure it's set up for Single-Drive, since it's the only drive on its cable. Sometimes this fixes the long pause you're experiencing. I'm assuming you have the WD hooked up to the motherboard's own native IDE controllers and not the IDE port that attaches to the onboard Promise controller. The motherboard's native IDE plugs are the two that are up high, next to the memory modules. The one that attaches to the promise controller is down below, and is horizontally oriented.

You are a genius.

I was like "Ah!" right after you said about the jumper.

I knew it was my IDE channel the board was looking for something, but I couldn't find anything on the bios to configure to ignore to find "something." ;)

You are right. It was jumpered as the master and the board was looking for the slave.

I made my WD200 as a single drive by removing the jumper and it stopped pausing.

I have total less than 15 seconds of booting into my Window now ;)

Thank you very much. And again you are a genius.

minor correction: The WD _drive_ is waiting for the slave to turn up, not the BIOS.
