K8Ns & 9600pro AGP 4x

Well.. I have a big problem here... I just don't know what else to try.



I've a Sapphire 9600pro 128Mb (Atlantis) that always works fine. It was running in a Abit NF7-s, Barton 2500+ without problems.

A few days ago, i bought a new machine... mother GigaByte K8Ns and micro AMD64 3000+ (skt 754)



After reinstalling windows XP (32 bits) I try to run 3dmark'03 and it starts and hang after a few seconds.

First of all I try last ATI Catalist drivers, then with Omegacorner last drivers, and finally Ati catalist few releases ago. All of them give me the same result.



Now I can run 3dmark'03 without hanging with the following config:

OmegaCorner (last driver), AGP 4x, Write Combining OFF, Fast Write OFF

Make sure you have fast writes turned ON. AMD 64 systems almost always need it on, and especially with radeon 9600 based cards.

actually, i have it running with Write Combining ON, Fast Write ON, but couldn't make it run at 8x.... it only runs at 4x.

AGP 4x, Write Combining OFF, Fast Write OFF --> 3221 3dmark'03
AGP 4x, Write Combining ON, Fast Write ON --> 3296 3dmark'03

theres no diference at least with this vga.

Try opening your computer case up and putting a fan next to the video card. See if it can run 3dmark then.

I'll describe my case...
it's a full tower with two 80mm fans at the bottom... blowing air directly to the vga, and one 120mm at the front panel blowing air to the cpu cooler and the vga two.

I think I can't give it more air than now =), i'm almost sure it's not a temperature problem.
I have changed the thermal grease from the vga cpu, just in case, but it doesn't works.

Try going into bios, and loading the original defaults, then try running 3dmark.
