I just bought 512x2 of Corsair Value Ram from newegg and put it in my system. I also have 1GB of Crucial DDR400 (2.5 latency). The chipset settings are set to "Auto," with no overclocking.
This configuration worked fine for three hours, then Windows XP froze. I rebooted, and the machine froze twice on the way into XP. Then, after that, I couldn't get past the BIOS introduction screen. I would see the message about my Athlon 3000, but nothing about RAM or anything else; only two or three lines total on the intro screen.
After I rebooted five times in 10 minutes, with no luck and staring at the same BIOS window, the machine decided to quit playing with me and fired up XP as it always has, just like that. I've since had three straight successful reboots.
I'm running Prime95 tests now. No problems so far. I had Nvidia's monitoring program running in the background initially and it didn't report unusal temperature readings prior to freezeup.
Any guesses as to what happened, and what I can do to prevent a recurrence?
