K8n Neo Won't post

Can anyone help me? I recently just bought a K8N Neo from newegg, and i configured everything. But then when i switched my cpu from, from AMD's stock fan to a zalman quiet fan, my computer won't post. It just goes beeeeep.... pause beeeeeep... i thought.. maybe the zalman fan speed is too low, so i switched back to my stock fan, and it stll does that. No post, nothing on screen 🙁 I tried taking out everything and set it up outside the case, with basic configuration (video, memory, cpu) and that didn't work. I also tried a different video card, and a couple different piece of RAM, that didn't work either. 🙁 Any ideas? Bad board for RMA? Bad CPU?

Maybe when you removed the stock heatsink, the CPU got pulled out of the socket a little. Try raising the locking lever, holding the CPU down firmly with your finger, and lowering the locking lever again. Good luck! 🙂

You might take a very close look at the CPU to make sure it didn't lose a pin or something. Also, you didn't happen to unplug your ATX12V cable and forget to plug it back in, by any chance...?

On the website you posted, there is a list of beep codes above the LED codes. Do any of those beep codes match what you hear when you turn the computer on? Listen carefully to the beeping and check the list again.

man...i had the same problem with the exact same mobo (ordered from newegg as well) even down to the "initializing keyboard controller" LED configuration. i RMA'd it. I've heard of this problem a loooot lately. Im thinking if they don't fix this problem, they're gonna have a nasty class-action suite on their hands shortly. the new boad is on route to my house as we speak. hope I don't get another lemon, as shelling out $17 to send it back is going to get reeeally old. if ida known the k8n neos had this problem , ida just spent the extra $20 n gotta asus board, seeing as i've already spent that much shipping it back to newegg.

:-\ i listened for the codes and non of them match the sound i heard. It's more like 1 long beep, and then pause for 1 sec, and then it repeats. I have a strong feeling it might be the board. I had problem with the buzzing of the chokes. I couldn't do anyhting, so i decided to ignore it. and now, the whole darn thing doesn't work. And i also tried the clearing cmos idea. and that didn't work. As if nothing has changed. I would hate to RMA it and pay toward my computer, because i am already really really close to my max budget, assuming i didn't go over yet 🙁

pak9rabid: please post here again and let me know how that go 🙁, and how did you figured out it was the motherboard? Could it be the CPU? RAM?

i am still up for any ideas that might fix the problem.

What kind of video card do you have?
If it's a newer one with the molex attachment you could check that also.

Wiser words have never been spoken. There are a few people on these boards who swear by MSI, however there are more here that have given up on MSI. Just do a search on the forums, and you will see that there have been several threads on MSI's lack of quality. Asus, Gigabyte, and Epox are the only companies I would by a motherboard from (I really use to like Iwill boards, however it seems they are ready to fall off of the face the Earth).

🙁
Don66, i tried both old and newer video cards. (ti4200 and 6800)

I used to have an ASUS a7v8x board, but since i am upgrading to a Athlon 64, i am looking for other boards, Asus don't have the board features i want :-\
MSI used to be pretty good, so i gave them a try, guess not....
pak9rabid: got your new replacement yet?

OK... i am planning to RMA it, should i do it through Newegg (where i bought it from) or should i do it directly with MSI?

pak9rabid: updates on your situation?

welp, go the new mobo in today. hooked it up, works fine. looks like it was just a bad board. Im in the process of formatting my hd now to put on WinXP SP2. phew, what a relief 😀.
