K8N Neo Platinum uses my ddr400 @ 333 mhz instead of 400 - need help

So I just upgraded my XP2500 barton to a a64 3000+ and tried some benchmarks on doom3. They werent that much better than my old system and I was looking into why. I thought maybe it may have something to do with my bios settings and i noticed my mem clock was at 166mhz. I have 2 kingston 256mb ddr 400 modules (value ram, not sure of the timings), so I was thinking they shuold be running at 200mhz instead off 166, right? So I tried changing the max mem clock to 200mhz instead of auto, but it doesnt change anything - my mem is still being used at only 166mhz. Does anyone else have this problem and or know how to fix it? Do I just need to get better ram? I also was looking into overclocking the ram into its normal speed, but when I tried that my comp just locked up.

Or did I just waste my money on this upgrade? I looked at sites with benchmarks and the jump up in fps from a xp2500+ to a64 3000+ was much better than what Im getting - 20-30 instead of the extra 5fps I got

That should kick arse over the xp2500. Try going into the BIOS (press delete) Look on right for LOAD OPTOMIZED DEFAULTS. Save that Bios and fire it up.
