Working with a computer where any sata drivers crash the machine, giving a blue screen with words something like "driver_irql_not_less_than_or_equal_to" (it may be different, the screen is up for such a short time before system restarts). No software loaded except for XP Pro, all updates, and nVidia unified drivers 5.10 (latest from their website). Loading XP onto a regular ide drive works great, but hook the sata drive up even though it's not booting, causes that bsod during bootup. Tried out a Promise sata pci card, and same results! Once the drivers were installed within XP, got the same bsod.

Looks like a motherboard RMA, but I'd rather try everything else before that, as MSI motherboard rma's take ~3-4 weeks from the day it's sent until I'd get it back.

If RAID is enabled for the connector you try to use, but use only one drive, then it can cause problem. Connect the SATA drive to nvidia controller and disable RAID if you have only one drive. SATA on nforce controller doesnt need any drivers anyway... drivers are needed only for RAID operation or for onboard and PCI card solution.
