Posted this in the motherboard forum, too.

With the 250Gb's built-in firewall, do I still need to run a software firewall? I know I need to run anti-virus software, of course.

I have the 250Gb hardware firewall set at Medium and I'm running Trend Micro Internet Security 2004.

Does the 250Gb's firewall do the same thing as my software firewall? Will I still get alert windows via the 250Gb hardware firewall, or do I need a software firewall for that?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I run ZoneAlarm Pro, and the new version prevents any of my personal info (name, address, phone, SSN, and so on) from being sent anywhere unless I say it is OK. The new version has what is called ID Lock and I was suprised how many sites try to get this kind of info. It also double checks emails.

Protection from the outside is one thing, protection from stuff you let in is still needed.

Software firewalls serve a different role than hardware. SW are able to detect and block outgoing connections from unknown programs.
