Hi all,

this is my my first post here. please let me know if this is not the right place.

I'm considering building a new pc with the following:
case Antec SLK2650-BQE Mid Tower
CPU AMD Athlon 64 2800+ 512K L2 1.8GHz retail (heatsink and fan included)
memory 1 x 512MB PC3200 (DDR400) KingstonValueRAM
mobo MSI K8N Neo Platinum (nForce3 250Gb)
storage 2x Seagate ST3200822A (200GB) Baracuda 7200RPM (8MB cache)
optical NEC 8X ND-2510A

speaker/mouse/keyboard/monitor will be used from old system.

this system is being build as a personal server and i need to raid 1.

i intend to run linux on it. not sure if anyone has run raid 1 using the the m8n neo. any problems with raid drivers? display drivers? any specific linux distro to avaoid?

anybody with good/bad experience with any of the above? am i missing something?

Any other comments on the config above will be appreciated.

Please note that i am in UK, so price comparisions only tell me how expensive things are here 🙂. Also, not all parts suggested (same companies that is) by AT and fitting my needs are available here.

thanks in advance

I suggest you stay away from the MSI board. I was going to go for the K8N Neo Platinum, but I started to hear about way too many problems with it. Consider going with the Asus K8N-E or a Chaintech.

Also from users like drag and n0cmokney, VIA provides better support for Linux~ so you may want to take that into consideration

yeah, i'd second the staying away from MSI. I'm in the process of RMA's a board for not posting whatsoever. I'd go with the Asus. Seems like they have much better quality control.
