I contacted ECS, updated all the drivers and used the USB Registry Patch from SIS, but I cannot get my motherboard to recognize my Orinoco Gold USB card after upgrading from Win2K.

Any ideas besides adding a PCI USB controller?

What happens when you plug this thing in while W2K is running? Nothing?

Do you have any other USB devices to try the USB port with?

Are you saying this device worked with this mobo before you upgraded to W2K?

Try the USB registry mod from the SiS web site, and install the XP service pack.

While W2K was running it worked perfectly. The problem came about after going to XP. It also works fine with PC card and PCI adapter. I have a Blekin USB client to try.

I just added a PCI USB Card thinking that may fix it, but still the same problem. It gets strong signal then cuts right out and somtimes returns.

Already tried the USB patch too. Argh

If the USB works fine with other things, the USB driver is OK.

From what you say, it seems the driver for the Orinoco thing (wireless LAN?) finds it when you plug it in. Where is this signal strength indicated? On the monitor screen with XP or something externally? It sounds more like the signal is not getting from one place to the other than a Windows problem.

Actually I have not tried other USB devices yet, but it was working fine in W2K, and the only change was upgrading to XP.

I forgot to add that using an Orinoco PC card and PCI adapter, it works fine. But I need that setup in another machine and don't want to have to resort to buying extra equipment when it should work.

FINAL RESULT...

Took off the Orinoco, installed a Belkin USB I had laying around, works like a charm. God knows why, but I don't.

CASE CLOSED!
