I have never built an XP system with less than 350 watt, but I built a 1.2 thunderbird using a generic 300. I would check AMD's website. If you r going to overclock I would get a 350 or higher.
The 300watt should be enough, though i've seen mentioned around here that the K7S5A is power hungry. If you currently have the 300watt, and don't plan on overclocking the 1700+, use it.
I have nothing yet. The reason i asked was that the ENLIGHT cases from Newegg comes with a 300W PSU and I figured I could use one of them.
Also looking into NForce 415 boards.
Make sure that PSU model is on the AMD compatibility list - inadequate power is one of the most common problems with AMD based systems. A good PSU costs a bit extra, but is worth its weight in reliability.
Back before AMD stopped listing the entire line of approved PS's, I believe the Enlight 300 watt was approved up to about a 1.2 GHz. Not sure if it will be adequate for an XP1700 with that board. I'd try it but keep your eyes out for sales on 350 watt or better PS's.
