Hi all,

I know, another K7S5A problem.... but it was working just fine for so long, I swear :) before I ....

I bought a mod kit to upgrade the visuals for my case, so ofcourse I have the plexiglass side panel, glowing fans, illumination and the "hip" glow in the dark round IDE cables for my CD-ROMS and floppy drive. Anyhow, after I have installed it all and replaced the regular IDE cables with the new ones..... opps, system will not post. So I have dissconected it all and replaced the "cool" IDE cables with my old one - no luck. I tried resetting the BIOS by adjusting the jumper. Now, I will admit that I have made a rookie mistake and reset the jumeper while the system was on because I have not done it before (there was no need) and I was not sure if resetting the BIOS required power or not. Anyhow, I have done it with power on and power off (with the jumper in "reset" mode I could not even turn on the comp).

Also to add to this, when I have "impoved" my comp's look, my first boot was without the vid card in the AGP slot - could that have messed thigns up??

Anyhow, Im in the need of a solution because without the comp I feel like I am missing an arm and I hope some of you can help me out.

Thanks.

Try reseating the memory and video card , all power off ( unplged is the safest )

... and check for bent pins in the IDE plugs, both on the mainboard and on the drives. Maybe you also knocked something else out of its sockets - check cards and cables.

Thanks guys, but I got the problem fixed through the elimination process. And yes, it was the IDE cables but it was my fault. Accidently I connected them all upsidedown! This dumb mistake costed me a lot of frustration. :)

Thanks for your efforts though; I know that I can always count on my Anandtech colleagues!

>opps, system will not post

It's been a while since I put the cables on backwards, but it used to be things would come up on the screen until it tried to access the HD. Didn't the Power On Self Test get to the HDs?
