K7s5a Still the Best Cheapo?? Did I burn EVERYTHING??

I've built a good 6 computers for other people with this mobo. Other than a slight PSU problem here and there and small things everything came out ok. However on my last build, I think I horribly messed up. I have the feeling I fried 2 motherboards and 2 Cpu's...........1set mine....1 set my friends. Can a burnt CPU mess up a mobo? What about the other way around.
Basicly this is what happend. I put together a AMD 1700,K7s5a. Put the alpha heatsink on too hard.....took the covering off a capicotr and.....messed up the mobo. The HS on the cpu got hot........THAN I RMA'd the mobo. Got new mobo. (Never tested CPU) I than Tested the new mobo with old CPU and the fan started...Everything seemed fine. I did not want to put the old alpha heatsink on the k7s5a mobo again cause i new it would not fit.....I than decided to put the Taisol HS from my computer on my friends and take his Alpha.....(New revision of board made the alpha not fit......my revision it does fit so we just swapped)......I had a bit of trouble taking off the HS from my computer since its a clip......once i took it off I put it on my friends.....i noticed that the fan now did not stay on now when i turned on my friends system......i figuired...hmmm maybe cpu is bad....so i take MY cpu....put it on my my friends board.......i seee smoke come up.....in all the confusion i didn't put the HS on it......blah blah blah.....i tested some more......now both cpu won't work on my computer(Which worked before)...........I hear my system come up....and my hd sounds like it keeps starting over or something.....no video comes up.........Did i Burn both CPU;s???? Oh i know my friends mobo...the one I RMA'd is bad...Why??? Cause the fool droppped it and broke a chip when I went to the restroom................ Did i fry both CPU's??? Did that in turn fry my mobo? Heck I could have taken the HS w/clip off my mobo too hard and messed up the chip RIGHT next to CPU socket!! From what I said ...IS everything screwed?

You Can Answer 1 question or Both I know the top is lengthy and may not be understandble....thnx 🙂

Anyways. Im planning on getting the K7s5a and a XP 1800+.....I alreqady have a Nice NIC,SC,VC,
I hanv't been keeping up with the latest news about motherbaords and cpus....so can anyone make a suggestion otherwise than that combo?
I do NOT plan on overclocking....I do NOT need Raid
basicly...that comb should cost me like 160 after shipping........ I don't want to spend too much....REally low in funds....but than again I don't want to get something too cheap which i Can't upgrade and would not be worth getting at this point in time.

Any suggesitons on a combo? Heck i know they selll mobo /cpu combos cheap.....i should look around....any suggestions??????????

Man!, what a mess!!!, Maybe your mobo is not dead, but the burnt CPU and mobo must be.

Try clearing the bios, maybe remove the bat. for about 10 minutes. That worked on a MSI board I had, I also seemed to be dead but after I left it without energy and without the bat. for an hour it booted as if nothing ever happened.

Yeah, the K7S5A is a good cheapo mobo, but you might think twice, for $15-20 more you could get a Via 266a mobo, for example the Asus A7V266E (with sound and nothing else) is about $70.

Actually, you can get a Shuttle AK31A for a mere $59 at Newegg. I recently lost a K7S5A and i got a AK31A as a replacement.

i think the question is.....what would be the advantage to spending that extra 15 or 20 bux??i have a k7s5a and have used like 4 other ones for customer's computers.....i can't seem to find any reason to go with another board rite now unless u need raid, usb 2.0, or something like kt333.....
