K7S5A or the CPU?

Against my better judgement, I bought a K7S5A and a Duron 1000 at a computer show from an out of town vendor. Installed both into a case and put a stick of 256 SDRAM and a 8 mg AGP video card in just to see if it would post. No luck at all, doens't seem to send a signal to the Monitor. tried a second vid card (PCI) same results. Next, got a working CPU and installed, still no luck. One note, when I tried the duron in my sons machine, it hung up on the NVRAM screen without recognizing the memory.....Is this a disaster all the way around or is the ECS board bad....any opinions? PS - tried re-seating everything....

Are you certain that the HS/F are installed properly and that it's not a heat related issue with the Duron? As to the board, are there any beeps or is it completely dead?

Did you check the CMOS clear jumper? Is it in the right position? If not, why not clear it anyways....a friend had the same symptoms as you until he cleared it and booted right up from then.

If that is not the solution, are you sure your SDRAM is OK?

Is your power supply AMD recommended? Usually 300 watts is recommended..

Had the same memory problem on my second PC...a few reboots and then resetting the CMOS to its default values did the trick for me.

And yes, make sure the jumper is set to normal instead of clear.

****Don't get any beeps...doesn't even register a signal to the monitor.

****Tried resetting the CMOS...The weird thing is that although the power button fires up the HS/F, it won't shut it off. I have to manually unplug it.

**** I guess my concern is that I would have thought even the most generic of setups would have at least sent a signal to the monitor(working...from my boys machine) I have no drives or periphs to suck power.
