Gentlemen, thank you for having me on your forum; while this is my first post,
I have been reading for quite some time.

I have recently done my first build, as a christmas gift for a friend.

The components are as follows -

ECS K7S5A
AMD Duron 950 MHz
Maxtor 40 Gig @ 7200
TNT 2 M64
CD-RW
Pine V.92, 56K PCI modem
300 Watt AMD approved Power supply
384 Megs SDram - yes, I know DDR would have been much better.

I have installed windows 2000 professional.

The build went very well - everything assembled fine, posted
without problems.
Loading Windows was also quite easy and trouble free.

However, in the 3 days since I have done this much, I have NOT
been able to get any sound!

The only exceptions to this are: the case speaker, for POST beeps
and such; when going online, the modem squeal is audible.

I have tried two different sets of speakers, each in the on-board
speaker port and the modem speaker port.

I have tried newer drivers to no success.
I have checked for hardware conflicts, to no success

I am rapidly approaching my wit's end! I want to listen to music on this!
It is not fit to present as a gift otherwise, to my mind.

What else should I try?

Have I overlooked something quite obvious?

Should I just go to Comp USA/Circuit city and purchase a soundcard?

Thank you all for your help.

-Ben

Are the speakers powered? If not that's the problem. Link to a thread that covers the issue.
