K7S5A memory problems?

Edit: changed request a little. 😉

I remember hearing about problems with the ECS K7S5A and using two memory sticks... I just can't remember if it was 2x PC-133 or 2x DDR it didn't like! This is important - it'll determine what RAM I get!

I'm not sure. I've got one of those boards myself, and for some reason it's not accepting my SDRAM, even though I know the stuff works fine. I'll have to buy some DDR for it...spending more money was not what I wanted to do :|

Yeah - I could get a super deal on 512MB PC-133 but I don't want to - I'll be stuck with the same problem of useless RAM later.

Even the 1GB PC2100 I've been offered for a super price would be a vastly better option. Heck, it'd still work fairly well with an Athlon64 later when finances get better and prices come down.

MEMORY

* 2 DDR DIMM sockets and 2 DIMM sockets support (can not be used simultaneously)
o Two 184-pin DDR SDRAM (DDR200, DDR266) or
o Two 168-pin 3.3V SDRAM (PC100, PC133)
o Maximum: 1.0GB (DDR or SDRAM)

appears you need two 512

No - it doesn't say that. The first thing I did was check ECS's site. It says 1GB maximum, it doesn't say whether that's one or two sticks.

It was a good stick of ram I had...it was from my original DIY system when I built myself an AXP 1600+ on an Asrock board that supported both SDRAM and DDR SDRAM. It's a 512mb stick of crucial CAS2. I wanted to put it to further use, instead of having to buy DDR memory. I'm strapped for cash. Ah well.

With the offer of cheap 512MB PC-133, maybe I'm not done yet.

I remember problems when using 2x RAM, but I can't remember if it was DDR or PC133 it didn't like!

You are going to spend 3 times as much for memory as you did for the MB?? Don't go with PC133 memory--unless someone gives it to you for free.R
