k7s5a dvd problem. help!

I need some help. my dvd drives transfer rate sux, It was fine under windows 2000 but when I switched to me it is crazy slow.
I enabled dma mode in the sytem dir but it does not help. my epox came with a program that you can switch the drive to 33 or 66, but this board does not have anything like that. I have tried all the new drivers and nothing. any ideas? 🙁
