Interesting, I recently moved my boys PC to a new case and put in a faster HD but it seems as if it takes 20-30 just to recognize my drives when booting up. Basically, it gets past checking ram and hangs for a bit before it lists my HD and CD. This usually is instant on the posting screens. BTW I have the 12/15/2001 BIOS(I believe) and have 2 other machines that don't have this problem. Any clues?

thanx frosty....I just found that on the WD website also......strange that the drive works fine after it the OS loads but takes awhile to get recognized during the boot process. Just thankful that it wasn't a bad drive AND an easy fix LOL!.

How were you able to resolve this? I have the exact same issue. Once it recognizes the drives, it loads up quickly. I looked on the WD site, but wasn't able to find the information you were talking about. Is it possible to post a link here?

I had the same annoying problem with my K7S5A. Turns out it was my Netgear FA311. I pulled that out and installed another cheapy nic and all is fine.

Welcome to the Anandtech forums :) With WD drives if you don't have another device sharing the cable then you don't config it as master. They ship the drive jumped or with certain models unjumped for the "single(standard installation) config which is for use when the drive is alone on the cable. Click Here and use the applicable diagram to see if yours' is jumpered correctly for your set-up.
