K7S5A, Athlon 1GHz @ 1.467GHz (146MHz FSB), new RAM: PC133 or £30 more for DDR?

Confused

Elite Member
I am getting some new RAM for my computer today (2x 256mb, cheaper than 1x512mb!) but not sure whether to get the PC133 for £55 or get DDR (2100) for £85 (£30 more).

Will i really see that much difference between the PC133 and DDR, or not? Also when i get a new CPU (1700+ or 1900+) would it be better with the DDR?

Thanks in advance 🙂

DDR, all the way 🙂 spesh for seti, i saw a distinct decrease in wu times when i bumped up from 66 to 100 FSB, so a doubling of mem bandwidth should be a great help 🙂 good luck !

PS Wont make an hapeth of diff which CPU u use with it, cos XP aint optimised for DDR 🙂

That particular mobo likes DDR better. Graphics apps will love you for it also......If you can swing it pay the extra and enjoy!

I have an xp1600(@146fsb) win98 on a k7s5a......with 256mb ddr I get about 3:50(for an avg. wu😉), with 128mb pc133 I get about 4:15(avg. wu).

does this help any?

Yeah, this helps a bit 😉 Everything to bring average down is good 🙂 Yours was an 11% decrease in WU time, so if i can get a 10% decrease that'll put my average at about 4:30 😀

I would go the DDR route, the XP 1700+ or 1900+ you are getting down the road will benefit more with DDR memory.
