I had read people posting that they have used the 8045 just fine with a K7S5A, but checking here I see that it may not fit on a version 3.1 board.

Well I just got my board and it is a version 3.1. So before I take it out of the wrapper and find that the hsf won't fit, can anyone tell me if they have a version 3.1 working with a PAL8045?

No

I tried it for giggles and it was like that website says - capacitors are too high.

Can I ask why you bought that hsf for a board that is not an overclocker?

I already have the hsf on a board that I bought the K7S5A to replace. I bought the 8045 for the silence, not the overclocking. I picked the K7S5A to do a gradual migration to DDR since memory prices are so high right now.

You know, you still may want to try it. It is not uncommon for manufacturers to change components occasionally - it's possible that the caps on your board are shorter.

I got the 8045 running on my v3.1 just fine - no mod. A few of the capacitors are close, but they aren't that close.
