K7N420 PRO Sound Card PROBLEM!

Im new to the board and Im hoping to get some help with my motherboard sound. My problem is theres a NVidia MCP-D
Processor on this board that is suppose to provied Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. HOW? The board comes with this
card called a CNR card that has 3 port holes for what look like speaker connections. One says R, another C/W, and the last
S/PDIF?? What the heck is that? The only sound I get by pluging in my speakers to this motherboard is by pluging the speakers
in to the motherboards speaker out port built in. But where do the sub and the center speaker plug in to? Does this mean
I need to still buy a sound card with the port holes to split the sound out? Im trying to play DVD's using the surround sound so this
is the reason for the question.

Any and all help would be appreicated. Thanks,
V

The answer depends on your current speaker system.

What are you trying to hook up to (multimedia speakers, home theater system)?
how many channels (5.1, 5, 4.1, 4, 2.1, 2)?

What inputs does it have? (analog, sp/dif, G9) etc?

Once we know that, we can help some more.

For your information...

The card you are talking about is an audio CNR that enables you to use analogue 5.1 from Nforce mobo.

R & C/W stands for Rear & Center/Woofer.
SPDIF is for Digital connection.
You'll need to set the correct speaker setting on your Nforce Audio setting (can't remember the name) to Surround.

Not knowing what your speaker is, I can only assume that it's an analogue 4.1/5.1 system. So simply connect your Front speakers to Line out on the back of the mobo. Connect Rear speakers to R jack on your CNR. Same for Woofer.

You should find more information on MSI Nforce Forum.

Heres the link to the specs on the surroundsound. Its a Monsoon 5.1. I believe the connects are considered analog. Im not
real familure with what the names for the differenct size connects are. They are the same that would plug in to a head phone port.
I did try and use the connections as described above orgionally and thats when I started to wonder why the CNR slot wasnt working or
what the hell it was used for?!?!!
Ill check out that forum.. Thanks guys..

maybe you got the -c version which doesnt have the dolby digital? i know my card has i think like 5 ports for different types of things.

First of all, download these drivers and install them (Info).

You'll need to use the analog ouputs then. Front channel output is the speaker out jack on the ATX back panel, rear and centre/sub channels are the two output jacks on the CNR riser. Ignore the SP/DIF connector (looks like an RCA connector).

open the nvidia APU control panel in the system tray (or the control panel); set both the analog and digital outputs to be stereo on the output tab. (the dolby surround option there is only for old dolby recievers with a decoder built into them).

on the speakers tab, select 5.1 speakers.

The only other thing you may need to do (if you like to play NOLF) is run dxdiag.exe, goto the music tab and disable defaultport acceleration (this is something I have had to do on just about every soundcard to get music to play correctly in NOLF).
