I called UPS customer support again today, and got them updated the tracking DB. All a sudden, it shows my package has been continuing its way to the right destination. guess UPS data center needs a flu shot to perform up. Hope I can get it on time, so i can jerk up my POS compaq this weekend.

I hate to bring up some more bad news. But my chip is also no longer working.

I first updated my P55T2P4 bios, then followed the directions at www.tomshardware.com to set it at 2.0v and 2x multiplier. I popped the chip in and it worked! I was very excited. I then installed Win98.

No problems yet. I was running the bus at 75mhz at the time. I got a few lockups. So I went to 66mhz bus (66x6=400mhz) which was actually UNDERclocking the CPU. It booted ok. I benched it, it was a bit slower. No biggie though, I figure its better than the 166mmx that was in there! 🙂

So it locks on me again. I try to boot? No dice. I remove all of the cards, still no beeps. I remove the memory. It beeps. So I replace everything and it boots again. (I posted a on wednesday with this problem). Well, it promptly hung again, and now will NOT boot with the AMD chip in there. I have tried everything to get it to work. The computer works fine with the 166mmx in there, even if I overclock the bus to 83mhz! So I know its not the memory or the components. Its gotta be the chip.

I am going to see if I can find somebody with a super7 board that I can try it out on. But I'm pretty convinced that its the CPU.

Anybody have any ideas on what I should do?

I cant get mine to run on my IBM aptiva. It gets past the intialization and then just a black screen. I have the voltage at 2.0 volts and then I tried 2.1 volts. still wont work.
Can someone suggest a good board for this chip? I heard the FIC boards are available with 2 megs of onbard cash. Would it be worth going for a baord with 2 megs of cash or would it not make much of a difference for games?I know it would be advantatious to have lots of L3 for business apps , but what about gamming and MP3s?

I am running it on a FIC 503+ and it works fine but I read that some people was able to running k6-3 on a FIC 503+ @ 600mhz... how is this possible? The fic only comes with a max multiplier of 5.5 and frequency settings of 66,75,83,95,100,112,123.

The chip is running at 550 because I can't get it to pass post with a frequency setting higher than 100..

<< I got a shipping question regarding order#006335 which I placed last Friday. it was scheduled to deliver to OH this Friday, as shown on UPS tracking info page. But I was quite shocked when I checked it 10pm this thursday - it's delivered to some 'WISCON' funk in CA!!! I learnt this had happened to another guy who posted in this thread. So do you have an explanation for what happened? And are you going to have some way to remedy this??? >>

Sojin, I think our orders are the ones that got mixed up. I also ordered last Friday and some how UPS gave both our orders the same tracking number. When I checked my orders tracking number it said it was going to Wisconsin BUT I live in California. I called them and they said couldn't do anything now but I should get the order anyway. I got the CPU last night. You might want to call them to straighten this out. Good Luck!!!

just got mine today. running at 600mhz v 2.0 with ease. the board is matsonic 6260s and it reconizes as a 550 but sandra and cpuidle says 600. the cpumark99 is 57.6 and sandra bench is dhrystone 1482 and whetsone 752 (sometimes higher).

Can someone please give me the benchmarks using Sisoft Sandra 2000? I just need the CPU and Multimedia benchmarks. My little k6-2/500 fails the memory benchmarks. Also please use Powertweak 2.02 release 10 to enable the weak writes and other funny stuff and post benchmarks with those options turned ON. It would be REAL nice if the mobo used is a P55T2P4 but if not, no big deal. I'm sure the difference is fairly insignicanct (<5%). Thanks all! 😀

PS Yes, Powertweak DOES make a difference. My K62/500 goes from about 800 to 860 (+7%) in the CPU benchmarks. Not significant but enough. Thanks!

I got mine on a new mobo. aopen mx59 pro 2. I can run this chip at 5 x 124 bus= 620Mhz or 6x 105 bus=630 ...I find that 5x120 bus is much better in 3dmark 2000 scores 124 bus is unstable.......

Just wanted to say that I have a Asus p5a and I am running a k6-3+ 450 at 550 with only 2.0V; BTW: I have seen the k6-3+ chips everywhere lately so try to find one with a good return policy if you can, you would probably be better off than buying an as is processor. Right now I am getting near PIII 500mhz Sandra Scores. Not too shabby for a measly $50 processor...

Oh an update to the K6-3+ I bought, finally got to install the damned thing. My MB5987 MBD by Anantec won't post with the chip in, even when I underclock it it wouldn't boot. And yes I did have the latest bios (had to boot with an old K6 200 chip to flash it), and Voltage was at 2.0 and even 2.1. Well I flashed my Va-503+ with the beta, popped the chip in and it works perfect. So one board can't handle it even though it can handle a K6-3 processor, and we all know FIC is solid.

I got a 2nd CPU, from the private sale. This one is super stable 616Mhz 5.5x112Mhz 2.2v week 24. The first one needed 2.3v which I was afraid to try-week 25. Soyo 5EMA+ v1.0.

Tiger direct has the k6-3+ cpus in 450,475,and 500 for 49.00 each regardless of speed. They also have some cheap motherboards too.
I wonder if they are all the same cpu just marked differently in speed? They have a 90 day warranty but no return policy on cpu's. I dont get it, how can there be a warranty but no returns. Then how do you replace a cpu if it is bad?

Any idea will NEC Ready 9704 handle this baby? It's using classic pentium 200. I really hate NEC, its site doesn't provide any info about its MB and flash BIOS stuff.

classic pentium mb probably will not recognize k6-3 chip.
the board probably is not super socket 7 (no 100Mhz bus setting)

Just to let you guys all know. I ordered a K6-3+ 450 from the PC Liquidator Private sale for $47 + shipping to business. Came out to be $55.62. I ordered one night and next day afterschool, it was on my door step. Fast delivery, but I live in Orange, CA, which is like 40 minutes from their store. Works! Overclocked to 600 (6x100) @ 2.2 volts. I think 2.2 is safe because it's only 10% above default voltage. Booted up fine. Played Unreal Tournament a little. Loaded FACE much faster than my previous K6-2 450@504. Did benchmark performance though. CPU temp after playing and restart was around 100 F. Thus, I decided to get a floor fan and directed the airflow into my open case. Much cooler now.
