please don't flame me for asking this...
I really wasn't in to to this when the k6-II and k6-III came out, and old internet reviews don't seem much help, either

I have a nice working k6-III 300 mhz 192 mb of ram, and I currently have debian linux on it.
should I replace the processor with another processor I have - a k6-II 350 mhz?
I wouldn't mind overclocking, either, so if one OC's significantly better then the other, I'll go with that one

Thanks!

If your board runs the K6-III, then it should also run the K6-2 450mhz+. The + denotes this processor to be a mobile chip. This chip easily hits 550 Mhz without a hitch, or voltage adjustment. I have one at 577 Mhz on an Asus P5A-B. It's been OC'ed for over two years at this level, for 24 hour per day. They can take the heat of overclocking very well, because they were designed as a mobile processor, and as such must handle the heat of that environment. Tiger Direct had some last month. At these speeds, they are about the equivalent to a Pentium III of a slightly faster clock speed.

The k63 is a good performing chip for the Mhz. I believe all the chips mentioned so far use different voltages. This is all the best I can remember ; the k63 300 used 2.7v(256 cache) , the k62 350 could be 2.2v or 2.4v(126 cache) , the k62+ or k63+ use 2.0v or 2.1v for overclock(less votage and heat more L1 cache) . Some research will be required to see if the k6+ chips will work in the motherboard , and a 100 Mhz bus is needed for above 400 Mhz(6x is max mult) . Two sites will be of some help ; www.k6plus.com and www.amdzone.com/forums/ . At amdzone check the k6chips forum.
