K6-3+ memory problems

What program do you use for benchmarking ? Synthetic benchmarks like Sisoft Sandra shows really nothing...

Maybe the board's BIOS doesn't know how to set up a K6-III+. What mainboard do you have there?

Regards, Peter

the bios does not recognize the +. the programs in windows do...

The board is an Azza (I know...) using the Via Apollo pro chipset.

model: PT-5VMD

Yeah I think synthetic memory scores suck. I disabled the L2 cache on a K6-2 to test it and got higher memory scores in Sandra. That doesn't make any sense, because I obviously get better performance with the cache on, not off. The same happened when I turned the cache off for a K6-3+.

Trifecta: AFAIK VIA Apollo Pro vas chipset for Intel processors, did you meant VIA MVP3/4 ? If you still have the feeling that your computer's memory runs slow, check if it isn't set to run 2/3 of FSB speed (MVP3 chipset has that feature).

K6 3+ (or 2+) does not operate correctly with older bios's. There are some "tricks" to getting them to run a full performance. There is a hidden community of mad socket 7 users that live at: http://www.amdzone.com/forum/categories.cfm?catid=13.

Look throught the last couple of months of messages. This covers almost all K6 x+ issues. If you get them running properly they give amazing results. Good luck.
