I've been scouring the net, but I haven't seen any resellers w/ any of these chips yet. I know some of you guys have 'connections' to resellers that usually can get 'impossible' stuff, like the slot a T-birds. Anyone got a line on one of these? Plz no flames about out of date SS7 platforms, I'm just trying to forestall the inevitable a little bit longer. 😛
 
I guess none of the hardware ferrets on the board care about throwing a bone to us old SS7 users. 🙁 Ah, the sadness.

I knew Vega was selling them, but I didn't wanna give it away.. was afraid they'd all disappear before I got to buy one.. :Q

I'll start a thread in the CPU section to let everyone know how the chip works on the Tyan and FIC boards. It would be great if anyone else could drop a line on their experiences with the chip. That way, we know what works and what doesn't.

Hey I thought AMD wasn't going to make this chip... whats the chief improvements? AMD fixed most K6-2 probs with the 400 when they introduced the new CXT (or was it CTX) Core.
 
I think its basically a K6-III with 128KB on chip L2 cache instead of 256KB, in a 0.18u process and perhaps enhanced 3DNow+
It'll probably be used for a while in the Notebook market before being replaced by Durons or some other low-powered Athlon iteration.
 
There, I was right afterall, with the exception of the PowerNow! feature. I've heard of it, but forgot about it. Anyway, not all K6-2+ notebook systems support that feature yet.
 
I don't think AMD ever made any K6-III+, or even had them planned. The K6-III line started and ended with just the K6-III, which was replaced by the K6-2+
 
Oh, no.. I planned to tell everyone and their dog.. as soon as I had mine.. 😉

I was surfing in some I-Opener forums, and people were looking for mobile K6 chips, so I set out looking for them. I found Vega via pricewatch, and then noticed that on their site, they had the PowerNow! logo next to all the Mobile K6-2's....

I heard someone in a thread somewhere say(😉) that they talked to someone at Vega, and they didn't expect the K6-3+ till late this year or even Q1'01. Apparently only a couple OEMs get this "special" chip..

A LONG time ago they released the K6-III 400, then the K6-III 450. Recently, they released the K6-III 333...what's with the backtracking?!?! At least it's only $30...
 
The K6-3 333 and 350 are Mobile chips that were never used. AMD was just cleaning house. When they're gone, they're gone.

 
Yeah. All K6-x's are Socket7. 🙂 Go look on Pricewatch, there'sa couple vendors selling K6-3/350s.
